Known for his soulful, genre-spanning productions, BR opened up about his journey into music, the artists he gravitates towards, and the moments in the studio that make it all worthwhile.

How did you get into music and what led you to start getting into production?

For BR, music has always been part of the fabric of his life. Growing up in a musically inclined family, he was surrounded by the sound of instruments and creativity. His father played a pivotal role, encouraging him to learn the piano—a decision that would shape the rest of his journey. “Eventually I fell in love with it,” he shares.

His desire to share what he was learning led him to start a YouTube channel, teaching others how to play songs on the piano. But as he created more content, he needed a way to build MIDI files, which introduced him to FL Studio. That single download sparked a long relationship with music production. Since then, it’s been his go-to tool for crafting melodies, arranging beats, and developing his unique sound.

What kind of artists do you usually work with?

Though his personal sound is rooted in R&B, BR doesn’t limit himself to one genre. His portfolio reflects a global ear—collaborating with artists across the Afro music spectrum, incorporating elements of bossa nova, and most recently, delving into the rising wave of Korean R&B.

This genre fluidity reflects his ability to adapt, explore, and create music that resonates across different audiences and cultures. He gravitates toward artists with soul—people who bring honesty and emotion to their music, no matter the style.

Any memorable studio moments that stand out?

For BR, the most memorable moments in the studio aren’t about big names or viral hits—they’re about alignment. “The ones that stand out are when you make something with people you believe in,” he says. “Everyone gets that feeling where you’ve made something to be proud of.”

That sense of shared purpose and connection fuels his best work. It’s in those moments—when everyone in the room is in sync—that the magic really happens.

What were some of your earliest influences or inspirations in music?

His first and greatest influence was close to home: his dad. That early mentorship grounded him and sparked his initial love for music. As he expanded his musical palette, BR drew inspiration from artists and producers like Cory Henry, known for his jazz and gospel fusion; Jay Prince, who blends London’s underground scene with soulful warmth; and Anomalie, whose intricate electronic-jazz productions helped push the boundaries of what music could be.

Together, these inspirations helped shape BR’s sound—rich, soulful, and constantly evolving.
