At MelodyMatch, we’re all about tapping into the real stories behind the beats—those late-night sessions, quiet influences, and moments of spark that turn into timeless sound. Angie, one of our writers here at MelodyMatch, caught up with BLAKSEED, a producer whose thoughtful approach to music and sound design is rooted in emotional resonance, curiosity, and intention. From youth clubs to legacy-driven collaborations, BLAKSEED is carving out his space as an orchestrator of sound.
How did you get into music and what led you to start getting into production?
“I’ve always had an interest in music for as long as I can remember,” BLAKSEED says. “I remember just wanting to understand how the music was made—and why certain sounds and rhythms drew out different reactions in people.”
That sense of curiosity became a calling. He initially thought he might step into the booth as a rapper, but self-awareness guided him in a different direction. “I realised that wasn’t my forte,” he says, “and being the orchestrator of sound was more for me.”
His entry point into production was hands-on and grassroots. Youth clubs provided the space. From there, BLAKSEED began shaping his sound—driven by a desire to understand not just how music is made and moves people
What kind of artists do you usually work with?
BLAKSEED gravitates toward artists with vision. “I’ve mostly worked with up-and-coming artists from all over,” he explains. “I’m interested in artists that push the sound and want to create music with longevity—something you can play 20+ years from now.”
For him, it’s not about chasing trends. It’s about building legacies. Working with artists who care about their craft as deeply as he does is what keeps the work meaningful.
Any memorable studio moments that stand out?
Without hesitation, BLAKSEED recalls the making of Tokyo by Wynter Black. “She posted a demo of a song she had just written on Instagram, and I asked her to send me the project files so I could produce an idea around her vocals,” he says.
He built the skeleton of the track and then passed it to his co-producer, Scott Illela, who added his own flourishes. “That took it to another level,” BLAKSEED says. “I know it sounds like a generic explanation, but it was the most seamless production process. It was almost like a dream how the song happened.”
Those rare, fluid collaborations—where the music seems to build itself—are the ones the ones that stand out most to him.
What were some of your earliest influences or inspirations in music?
BLAKSEED’s earliest sonic memories come from home. “My parents’ record collection was my first influence,” he recalls. “There was a lot of gospel music in the house, and the church band was the first time I thought, I want to make people move like that.”
Later, it was his older brother who expanded his palette—introducing him to the genres that now define his production style. From gospel and soul to electronic textures and forward-thinking R&B, BLAKSEED’s inspirations are layered, spiritual, and deeply rooted.
At MelodyMatch, we believe producers like BLAKSEED are the backbone of the independent music scene—builders of sound, shapers of emotion, and collaborators in every sense of the word.
