At MelodyMatch, we love highlighting producers and engineers who bring intention, emotion, and vision into every session. Angie caught up with Charlotte, a classically trained singer, songwriter, and producer whose journey from opera to R&B-infused production reflects a passion for storytelling, sound design, and artistic empowerment. Now working out of Anotherland Studios in Soho, Charlotte is helping artists find their voice—one track at a time.
Can you share a bit about your background and how you first got into music?
Charlotte’s love for music runs deep. “I started singing at four years old and began classical training in opera shortly after,” she says. That early start also included learning classical oboe, giving her a unique foundation in both vocal performance and instrumentation. By 14, she was writing her own songs, and at 17, she started teaching herself the fundamentals of music production.
What began as curiosity—building demos and experimenting with sounds—soon became a calling. “I quickly realized how much I loved shaping sounds and building tracks from the ground up,” she explains. That passion eventually led her deeper into the world of production and engineering, where she now thrives.
What were some of your earliest influences or inspirations in music?
Charlotte’s inspirations are as rich and wide-ranging as her own sound. Artists like Stevie Wonder, Aaliyah, and Lana Del Rey shaped her love for emotional storytelling and sonic depth, while operatic arias provided a foundation in expression and drama. “I was captivated by their emotional depth, unique production styles, and storytelling,” she says.
Over time, her taste expanded even further, incorporating influences from soulful R&B to cinematic electronic music, which now show up subtly in her atmospheric arrangements and layered vocal work.
What kind of artists do you usually work with, and how do you approach helping them achieve their sound?
Charlotte works out of the vibrant Anotherland Studios in Soho—a space that aligns closely with her ethos. “My goal has always been to create a welcoming, creative space where artists feel empowered to express themselves authentically,” she says.
Working in such a dynamic studio environment has allowed her to collaborate with a wide range of musicians, bringing their ideas to life with care, precision, and artistry. “It’s all about creating something that feels true to them.”
The songstress’s client list spans emerging indie acts to established vocalists, and her production approach is deeply collaborative. “I love to understand an artist’s story and vision,” she explains, “so I can tailor the production to complement their unique sound.”
From crafting lush vocal stacks to layering ambient textures or dialing in the right groove, her goal is always to bring out the heart of the track. “It’s about creating a soundscape that supports and elevates the emotion behind the music.”
Have you had any memorable sessions or breakthrough moments in the studio?
One moment that stuck with Charlotte was working with an artist recording in a professional studio for the very first time. “They came in feeling nervous,” she remembers, “but by the end of the session, we had created a powerful track that felt deeply personal to them.”
Watching that artist’s confidence bloom was a reminder of why this work matters. “It’s moments like those that remind me why I love what I do,” she says. “It’s not just about making music—it’s about helping people find their voice.”
At MelodyMatch, we’re proud to highlight producers like Charlotte—those who use their skills not just to shape sound, but to nurture and empower the artists behind the mic.
