From the moment he sat at a piano in his primary school’s music club at age 8, ONKXR was unknowingly laying the first bricks of a path that would lead him from self-taught YouTube sessions to Abbey Road Studios.
By 15, curiosity took over when he discovered GarageBand on his laptop. “It was like finding a second voice. I realised I could speak my emotions through production.” Inspired by Hip-Hop legends like J Dilla, Nas, Kanye West and Nujabes, his sound became a textured mix of feeling and rhythm.
At first, music was a passion that ran alongside his academic life. He studied Physics at Warwick University with plans to become a research physicist. But deep down, the dream was always music. In January 2024, he made the ultimate leap of faith to dedicate himself fully to his craft – move that surprised everyone around him.
The turning point came when ONKXR reconnected with his Punjabi roots. “Punjabi music has such a strong Hip-Hop influence,” he says. “It inspired me to start producing Punjabi tracks at the end of 2023. That’s when the vision clicked – to innovate within the Punjabi–Hip Hop fusion.”
That vision, combined with relentless networking, collaborations, and honing his sound, led to a major milestone: being named one of two recipients of the 2024 Abbey Road Studios Diversity Scholarship, giving him a year of study at Abbey Road Institute and potential placement at the iconic Abbey Road Studios.
Upcoming Release: Grit Meets Heritage
ONKXR’s upcoming debut single pays homage to gritty boom bap Hip-Hop – think Wu-Tang Clan, MF DOOM, and A Tribe Called Quest. While uniquely weaving in the rich textures of Punjabi music, the track features a gifted Punjabi singer-songwriter whose lyrical message adds depth to ONKXR’s hard-hitting yet soulful production. We encourage everyone to pay attention as this release is sure to shake up the current British hip-hop scene.
Studio Spirit
For ONKXR, the studio is more than four walls – it’s a creative playground.
“No idea is ever a bad idea until it’s been tested. That’s the essence of creativity.”
His collaborations range from Punjabi singers to UK rappers, with credits including assisting as a recording engineer for a jazz quartet and capturing the 30-piece Brixton Chamber Orchestra across 12 shows during their 2025 Summer Estates Tour. With such an impressive and diverse catalogue – ONKXR is surely one to watch on the production scene.
The ONKXR Sound
Sampling is at the core of his artistry. “I love taking obscure, strange-sounding samples and transforming them into beats that tell a story,” he explains. Even without vocals, his productions carry narratives, emotion, and identity.
Why We’re Excited
ONKXR is the kind of producer who doesn’t just merge genres – he builds bridges between cultures. His music isn’t just heard; it’s felt. And with his debut single on the way, we can’t wait to see where his creative curiosity takes him next.
