From Classical Guitar to Cinematic Scores: Meet SHEZ

For SHEZ, everything started with six strings. The guitar was where he first discovered his voice, studying classical pieces from the age of nine before curiosity pulled him toward Rock, Soul, Blues, and Jazz. His ears were tuned to legends like Sam Cooke, Jeff Buckley, and Otis Redding – artists who still shape his sound today. Singing came soon after, sparked by teenage attempts to copy his favourites and see how close he could get to their magic. As he puts it, music was never a plan, it was instinct: just a case of finding his voice and following it.

A World of Collaborations

SHEZ’s creativity doesn’t stop at his own music. He thrives on collaboration across different mediums.

“I work with a lot of different kinds of creatives, usually other artists and musicians since I play in a few different bands,” he shares. “I also work as a film and TV composer, so I’m often collaborating with directors, editors, and producers as well.”

This diversity of partnerships has shaped not only his skillset but also the breadth of his artistry, seamlessly moving between the stage and the screen.

Studio Memories That Last a Lifetime

One of SHEZ’s most unforgettable experiences came in 2023, when his composition for the film Polite Society was brought to life by a live orchestra at Angel Studios in London.

“Hearing music I’d written played by a live orchestra was surreal,” he says.

When it comes to his solo work, however, SHEZ embraces solitude. “In terms of my artist project, I’m a bit of a recluse. I record and produce everything myself from home. It’s a lot of introspection. When I feel I have something to say, or words come to me that are true to my feelings, I start working on something.”

A Minimalist Approach with Soulful Depth

SHEZ describes his sound as “distilled.” For him, less is more.

“I’m definitely not one to overproduce or overcomplicate. If it’s there, it has to be for a reason. Sometimes I want to say as much as possible without saying anything at all.”

This simplicity doesn’t limit him ; it gives his music space to breathe. Occasionally, he even slips into Spanish, adding another layer of texture and uniqueness to his work.

Looking Ahead

While SHEZ isn’t rushing the process, he’s quietly building the foundation for what’s next. “I have the building blocks for another EP, but it’s still taking shape,” he reveals.

For fans and new listeners alike, SHEZ’s journey is one worth following. His music is distilled into something beautifully raw and is definitely an artist to watch.
